REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN Iâve lost count this year of how many theaters have produced variations of Charles Dickensâ âA Christmas Carol.â While weâre in the midst of a pandemic, all of the productions, including the one-man and the one-woman-and-puppets shows, have been unique and popular this year. However, just when I thought Dickens had been totally accounted for with both streaming and limited seating, the Westport Country Playhouse came up with such a special production that I didnât know whether to call it new or old. The Playhouse, in partnership with WSHU Public Radio, presented a radio play âA Merry Little Christmas Carolâ based on Dickensâs novella. It is not only unique, but incredibly imaginative and thoroughly wonderful. ....

The free-of-charge audio play, which features Paxton Whitehead in the role of Scrooge, offers everyone a holiday experience from your very own home. I was able to catch the two-hour premiere on Saturday, December 19 but there is one additional chance to experience the show at a rebroadcast on WSHU on Saturday, December 26, at 8 p.m. WSHU frequencies and locations are listed at wshu.org in the About Us drop-down menu. ....

A popular source for cold weather clothing, hiking boots, bikes, and other such items, Outdoor Sports Center’s 80 Danbury Rd. location is a short distance away from NRVT’s Route 7/Wolfpit Road trailhead. “We are so pleased that our friends at Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton are supporting new miles of the NRVT. This year, COVID showed us how important it is to get outside, and now there are many new fans of the trail,” NRVT Executive Director Beth Merrill said. “Donating to the NRVT is a gift that comes back to you in the form of new trail to explore and enjoy.” ....
