UNODC initiates project to combat human trafficking July 28, 2021 Islamabad : The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency on Tuesday launched a project to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants in the country. According to representative of the UNODC Pakistan Dr. Jeremy Milsom, the two-year joint initiative of the UNODC and Canadian government reaffirms that combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling is of the highest importance for Pakistan and Canada and his organsiation as a whole. The project, which is financially supported by the government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, is a coordinated response to trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants and aims to strengthen the capacity of the FIA for fighting trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, he told the project launching ceremony here. ....
IWMB announces heavy fines, jail term for littering at Margallas Islamabad May 16, 2021 Islamabad : The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has finally announced that those who would be found involved in spreading litter and violating rules introduced to protect and preserve the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) may face heavy fines and one-month jail term. According to the notification issued through the Islamabad District Administration “Smoking, bonfires, BBQs, tree cutting, littering and encroachments in the area of Margalla hills is a crime. You can be arrested for a month and fine can be imposed through summary trial.” The IWMB chairperson and the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad held a discussion at a picnic point in Margalla hills before Eid in which they maintained that they would take joint measures to safeguard MHNP against littering and it would also include imposition of heavy fines on public littering,” it said. ....

Daily Times May 7, 2021 The Government of Pakistan allowed the use of the country’s airspace by a Canadian aircraft carrying medical aid to Covid-19 hit India. In his Tweet, Canada’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Wendy Gilmour expressed gratitude to the Foreign Office of Pakistan for “swift assistance with overflight clearance for humanitarian supplies to relive suffering in India.” Canada sent relief support, including medicine and ventilators, to India that has been witnessing a record infections and deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic with overcrowded hospitals turning away patients after running out of supplies of medical oxygen and beds. GILGIT: Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Wendy Gilmour has said that Gilgit-Baltistan offers opportunities in winter tourism, and that there is need to promote responsible tourism in the region to mitigate impact on environment. She said the Canadian government would continue to promote responsible tourism and mitigate climate change effects in GB. She made the remarks during a visit to the Glof-II office in Gilgit on Wednesday. First Secretary Emilie Milroy also accompanied her. The coordinator Glof-II briefed her about the project and its objectives and background.
