RAWALPINDI: Dr Henry Kissinger stayed on in Nathiagali today [July 9] cancelling his day’s programme in Rawalpindi which included a round of talks with President Yahya Khan, a visit to the GHQ and dinner arranged for him by the President. General Abdul Hamid Khan, Deputy Chief Martial Law Administrator and Chief of Staff, Pakistan Army, called on Dr Kissinger and had lunch with him at Nathiagali. An official handout this evening [July 9} said that Dr Kissinger was “slightly indisposed”.
He had left Rawalpindi early this morning for Nathiagali, accompanied by the Foreign Secretary, Mr Sultan Mohammad Khan, the handout said. His departure from here for Paris which was originally scheduled for tomorrow afternoon is also said to be uncertain now. He had arrived here yesterday at noon and had a long session of talks with President Yahya Khan in the evening. He also stayed for dinner with the President. CALCUTTA: West Bengali crowds today [April 22] attacked the hotel where the new Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner to Calcutta was staying while making preparations to take over his country’s mission here. The new Deputy High Commissioner, Mr Mahdi Masud, checked out of the Hindustan International Hotel in central Calcutta after ruling Congress Party workers and students stormed the hotel lobby and clashed with hotel guards. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the rampaging crowd, one demonstrator and a guard were injured in the clash, Police said.
Mr Masud drove away from the hotel under heavy guard, and a Police officer quoted him as saying he would fly back to New Delhi because he could not find accommodation in any Calcutta hotel. A Hindustani Hotel Employees Union spokesman said the union members had decided not to serve the Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner, who arrived here last night. Agencies
