A popular Memon delicacy, this sticky and soupy chickpea dish is cooked without using any cooking oil, and thus it is supposed to be quite a healthy alternative to the other oily stuff that people are used to consuming around this time of year. But wherever one used to find a Kathiawary chholay vendor, there was none to be found during Ramazan. “Have some Qalandari chaat instead,” offered the guy selling Qalandari chaat at Pakistan Chowk when asked about Kathiawari chholay. ....
LARKANA: A senior doctor of Sukkur, who contracted coronavirus from his patients, died at a Karachi hospital on Monday while 10 Covid-19 patients succumbed to the deadly virus during April at Chandka Medical College Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) and high dependency unit (HDU). CMCH medical superintendent informed participants in a meeting at commissioner’s office about the deaths from the virus. Samples of 11,851 suspected patients had been obtained since April to date out of whom 417 tested positive for the virus, putting positivity ratio in Larkana district at four per cent, said district health officer. Commissioner Shafique Ahmed Mahesar instructed health officials to ensure availability of oxygen in ICU and HDU and take proper care of the patients. Consultants must visit the patients on a regular basis and PCR facility must be made available at the CMCH round the clock, he said. ....

Unchecked encroachments on the rise in Mardan bazaars National January 18, 2021 MARDAN: The encroachers have set up illegal structures in different bazaars and squares in the city causing traffic jams, but the administration is least bothered to take action against them. During a visit, it was observed that several shops have been built in various localities and bazaars without following the legal procedures. The encroachers have set up fruit and vegetable stalls on both sides of the roads causing inconvenience to pedestrians. The space in the squares and bazaars in Mardan city has been annexed with the alleged connivance of the officials concerned. This is creating traffic jams and causing problems for the pedestrians. ....
