It was the year 1999 and India had just brought the Kargil War to a successful conclusion. On July 26, 1999 India announced that its territory was now free of Pakistani presence . The last of the intruders, reports explained, had now been evicted from three pockets of the Kargil sector. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Kargil Diwas every year. All clear on Kargil, the front page of The Free Press Journal proclaimed. But while intruders had been evicted, things were not quite resolved yet. According to the FPJ report, troops from both countries were in an eyeball-to-eyeball position right on the Line of Control and engaged in heavy shelling .
This was done so that they get a strategic advantage during the start of the conflict.
Based on information provided by local shepherds, the Indian Army was able to ascertain the points of incursion and launch what is termed as Operation Vijay .
It started when on May 2, 1999, a man called Tashi Namgyal, a local shepherd living in a small village called Gharkon near mountainous Batalik town of Kargil spotted six men breaking stones and clearing the snow when he was looking for his list Yak.
This was unusual for Tashi as he saw no footprints leading to the spot and it was clear that they had come from the other side.

Kabul [Afghanistan], July 24 (ANI): Top Afghan officials met with former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London and discussed regional security and stability, the National Security Council of Afghanistan (NSCA) informed on Friday. Dr Hamdullah Mohib, national security advisor of the Islamic Republic, and State Minister for Peace Sayed Sadat Naderi called on Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London to discuss matters of mutual interest, the NSCA said in a statement.
