Prolonged power outages play on nerves of Pindiites July 7, 2021 Rawalpindi: The performance of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) stands exposed as the electricity system of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is playing on the nerves of the consumers who have to brave prolonged power outages fluctuations, tripping, and low voltage for the past many days. The residents of areas near 502 Workshop and Adiala feeders falling under Adiala Grid Station are facing 12 to 16 hours of power outages for the past three days. The heat-stricken consumers have strongly protested against Iesco but in vain. The protesters also blocked the main Adiala Road, burnt tyres, and raised slogans against Iesco here on Tuesday. ....
‘Traffic snarls due to encroachments’ RTO, traders demand operation against illegal settlements PHOTO: REUTERS RAWALPINDI: Encroachments are creating impediments to the smooth flow of traffic as encroachers have set up their kiosks on footpaths in the city. Encroachers can be seen in Chungi No 22, Bara Market, Namak Mandi, Narnkari Bazaar, Fawara Chowk, Trunk Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Commercial Market, Saidpur Road, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Asghar Mall Road, Ganjmandi Road, Dhoke Mangtal Road and Bagh Sardaran in the city. Speaking to the media Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal said encroachments were a major obstacle in the smooth flow of traffic, adding that traffic police were making all-out efforts to avoid traffic snarls on roads. He asked the traders to cooperate with traffic police in eradicating encroachment. ....
National May 20, 2021 Rawalpindi: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) have substandard and unhygienic meat of ill chickens during an operation in the city area here on Wednesday. According to the PFA spokesman, the enforcement team carried out a raid in the Chicken market in the wee hours at the Bagh Sardaran area and discarded 4,030 kg of chicken meat on the spot. He said that meat was being supplied to the city hotels and was not up to hygienic standard. The teams also imposed a heavy fine on 7 vehicles involved in delivering substandard chicken to the market while warning notices were issued to 12 suppliers for improving the weight and quality of chicken. ....
