India outplay Spain 3-0 in men s hockey match

Tokyo, Jul 27 (IANS): India recovered from their disastrous outing against world No. 1 Australia to defeat Spain 3-0 in a Group A league match at the Tokyo Olympics mens hockey tournament at the Oi Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday.
Veteran drag-flicker Rupinderpal Singh scored a brace of goals, his first off a penalty stroke, and Simranjeet Singh contribute one as Graham Reid s India romped to a well-deserved victory against a Spanish team that lacked the firepower to trouble the world No. 4 team.
It was an inspired decision by coach Reid to leave Gurjant Singh out and bring Simranjeet Singh into the squad, and the young forward repaid the trust by opening India s account when he deftly deflected in a long ball from the sideline by defender Amit Rohidas into the goal.

TOKYO: Dragflicker Rupinder Pal Singh scored a brace as the Indian men s hockey overcame a demoralising defeat in the previous match to cruise past Spain 3-0 and inch closer to a quarterfinal berth at the Tokyo Olympics here on Tuesday.
Drubbed 1-7 by Australia in their last match, India produced a spirited performance against world No.9 Spain and scored through Simranjeet Singh (14th minute) and Rupinder Pal Singh (15th and 51st) to record a comfortable win in their third Pool A match at the Oi Hockey Stadium.
India, ranked fourth in the world, had earlier defeated New Zealand 3-2 in their opening fixture. Spain, on the other hand, are yet to register a win in the competition.
