Norwegian shipbuilder VARD has won contracts to build three Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) for the UK-based North Star Renewables. The vessels, to be built in Vietnam, will operate on the Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea, the world s largest.
The shipbuilding contract announcement comes three weeks after North Star said it had won a deal worth around $375 million to supply SOVs for the giant wind farm off the UK. The 3.6 GW Dogger Bank wind farm is being built in three phases in the North Sea by joint venture partners SSE Renewables, Equinor, and Eni (Phases A & B). ....

While renewable energy is the future, gas generation offers powerful short-term gains towards sustainability
At its online seminar featuring key leaders from its global energy business, GE has highlighted the combination of renewables and gas power to make headways in the fight against climate change and carbon emissions reduction at the shortest time. This is especially true for Asia, where the power density of gas power makes it well-suited to meet forecast skyrocketing demand coming from significant population increase in the next decade and beyond.
While the long-term vision for power generation is definitely zero-carbon featuring renewables, Jeff Goldmeer, Emergent Technologies director, GE highlighted that neither the grid nor storage infrastructure are ready for a full switch to renewables. ....

Vard supplies SOV trio for Dogger Bank deployment - reNews

The trio of ships will operate on the Dogger Bank wind farm in the North Sea.
The three SOVs are set for handover to North Star in 2023. They will be built at Vard’s Vard Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam.
The SOVs were developed by Vard in cooperation with Aberdeen-based North Star, which has secured 10-year charter contracts for the trio from Dogger Bank Wind Farm in an international competition.
The charters include options for three one-year extensions.
North Star announced it had secured the £270m contract for three state-of-the-art service vessels from world’s largest offshore wind farm last month ....

The vessels will be used on the giant 3.6-gigawatt Dogger Bank wind farm in the North Sea.
It recently emerged that North Star had fought off strong international competition to secure the deal to design and deliver the three-vessel service operation fleet for Dogger Bank, which is currently being built by joint venture partners Perth-headquartered SSE Renewables, Equinor and Eni. ....
