Bahrain seeks bidders for Dubai-style multi-billion dollar rail network

Tendering via a global competitive bidding process is due later in the year for the 109 kilometre rail-based urban transit system.
“We have been working in full force on a complete transportation infrastructure improvement strategy covering land, air and sea,” said Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications.
“This will support and drive the kingdom’s economic development and serve our citizens, residents and visitors.
“Through the Bahrain Metro project, MTT aspires to apply the latest technology that is up to international standards.
“This marks an important milestone as it will improve the quality of life of citizens by providing a fast, comfortable, reliable, and sustainable transportation system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.” ....

Bahrain to begin global consultation on metro
MANAMA, February 23, 2021
Bahrain s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) will host a global market sounding event on March 2 to introduce the Bahrain Metro project to international and regional players.

The ministry is looking to collaborate with the private sector on a public private partnership (PPP) basis to encourage innovation, bring efficiencies and provide the best value for money for this project, said the ministry.

The virtual event is titled “Bahrain Metro Market Consultation” and will encourage dialogue with the industry, said a statement.

MTT aspires to develop a state-of-the-art public transport network with a fully automated driverless system leveraging the latest innovation and technology, while incorporating international standards and best practices and concurrently having the scope for scalability and providing the best value for money, it ....

Bahrain seeks partner to build national metro network

Bahrain has launched a procurement process for the construction of the Bahrain Metro. The multi-billion-dollar project seeks to develop a rail transport network across the kingdom through a public-private partnership (PPP).
To this end, Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) will host a ‘Global Market Virtual Sounding Forum’ to introduce the project to key players within the global construction industry. The forum will be held during the first week of March 2021 and will be followed later in the year by the project’s tendering via a global bidding process. ....

The public transport system in Bahrain is making a big come back amid the coronavirus pandemic.
More than 33 thousand passengers are using the buses per day now, which is an increase of 150%, compared to the prior year.
“This number jumps to 45 thousand during weekends and public holidays,” said Sami Abdulla Ahmed Buhaza, the Undersecretary for Land Transportation and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.
Passenger numbers, Buhaza said, rose significantly following the introduction of upgraded buses in 2015.
“The number of busses servicing various routes also doubled.”
Even-though, the pandemic severely impacted the services, passenger footfall is rising again now, thanks to the stringent safety and security measures followed. ....
