PROVIDENCE The Barrington doctor found guilty of assaulting his neighbor in a racist tirade that sparked protests has appealed his conviction to Superior Court. Judge Stephen Isherwood last month found Dr. Richard Gordon, 71, guilty of simple assault and disorderly conduct in the Aug. 3 confrontation with his neighbor, Bahram Pahlavi, over a boundary dispute. Isherwood, however, declined to sentence Gordon under the Rhode Island Hate Crimes Sentencing Act, as sought by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha s office. The judge s decision that spared Gordon from serving at least 30 days and up to a year in prison upon conviction.
