SCOTLAND’S Football Association partnered with the Union of European Football Association’s (UEFA) outreach programme to aide the development of the local game in the Bahamas. By way of the UEFA assist programme, the Scottish FA donated $40,000 to the Bahamas Football Association following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. According to UEFA, the donation is intended “to help the Bahamas FA rebuild its footballing infrastructure.” UEFA’s assist programme partners with its member federations to aide the global development of the sport through shared information and best practice guidelines. The programme has supported over 200 development projects in approximately 60 countries. ....
“WE remain committed to youth development in The Bahamas beyond the football pitch,” explained Anton Sealy, president of The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) as they presented 100 tablets complete with MIFI devices to The Ministry of Education. As COVID-19 forced schools in The Bahamas, and indeed the world, to convert to virtual learning platforms, the BFA recognised that many of its players have been challenged to access their new online classrooms. As such, the Association sought support from FIFA and subsequently partnered with Aliv to purchase and donate the tablets to benefit disadvantaged students across the country. “We at The Bahamas Football Association, along with our member clubs, decided to do something to assist the most vulnerable and severely impacted members of our constituents in football, that being our school age players and more so, those without the capability to effectively participate in the virtual learning process,” explained Seal ....
On Monday, the ministry accepted 300 tablets from the corporate donors. The District Grand Lodge, in partnership with Masonic Charitable Foundation, Royal Victoria Lodge No 443 and Aliv, donated 200 tablets. The District Grand Lodge also made a donation of 50 tablets for the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture and Library Services in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The Bahamas Football Association donated 100 tablets. Executives and members of the Bahamas Football Association, Aliv and the District Grand Lodge attended Monday’s event. Jeffrey Lloyd, minister of education, expressed gratitude for the generosity displayed by the organisations. “You have come forth with great generosity and philanthropy to meet this phenomenal goal of 36,000 devices. We’re well on the way, we’re not there yet. The ambition was to raise $1m we’re over $300,000 toward that goal with more coming every day.
