13 Kwankwaso scholarship beneficiaries get foreign employment


13 out 370 scholarship beneficiaries of Kwankwasiyya Development Foundation have secured automatic employment with foriegn institutions and local investors.
The beneficiaries, who were selected based on merit, recently returned from abroad after completed their two years postgraduate academic programmes in 14 universities across United States of America, United Arab Emirates and Asia.
Unveiling the 370 beneficiaries during a maiden job fair at the weekend, former Kano state Governor and founder of Kwankwasiyya foundation, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso disclosed that 13 of the beneficiaries were retained and offered automatic jobs for their exemplary academic performance at their foreign universities.

Kwankwaso who expressed delight at the commitment of industries, manufacturals and local investors who also offered job opportunities to other Kwankwasiyya scholars at the fair. ....

Daily Trust - Sokoto to upgrade Shagari College of Education to university


He said the decision to upgrade the institution was premised on its enviable track record.
“It is one of the high-ranking teacher training institutions and among the largest producers of teachers in Nigeria,” he said
Tambuwal noted that in furtherance of its upgrading, approval has been given for the construction of two-storey students’ hostels, capable of accommodating over 400 students.
In his address the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Bashir Garba said through the support of the state government, the college has recorded several milestones over the past 50 years of its services to humanity.
The Provost of the college, Dr Wadata Hakimi, said a total of 48,936 students had bagged the National Certificate of Education (NCE) from the inception of the school. ....

Former Niger governor bemoans scrapping of Teachers' Colleges in the country

Sokoto, Dec. 27, 2020 Former Governor of Niger state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, has bemoaned the scrapping of Teachers Colleges, that used to produce Grade two teachers, because ”the certificate prepared many of us for success in Colleges of Education that produced many life teachers”.
Aliyu made this assertion on Sunday, in Sokoto, at a Convocation lecture, at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto (SSCOE), to commemorate its 50th anniversary and 22nd Convocation ceremony.
In the lecture entitled “The place of Colleges of Education in the development of Nigeria”, Aliyu said the topic was imperative in the light of the many challenges that faced the education sector, compounded by the scrapping of Teachers Colleges. ....
