Four months in to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, a lack of supply is still Manitoba s main concern, but the province has yet to announce a plan to prevent unnecessary waste.
Mass-immunization clinics don t use standby lists, which have been adopted in some other provinces to administer leftover vaccines at the last minute, and doctors offices and pharmacies developed their own protocols to dole out all of their vaccines before they expired. Wastage wasn t a concern, representatives for physicians and pharmacists said, because of the limited number of doses clinics and pharmacies initially received last month. ....

A Winnipeg doctor says the province has created the most chaotic system possible for giving a limited quantity of COVID-19 vaccines to the most at-risk Manitobans.
We re in a state of chaos, said the doctor, who asked not to be named over concerns his criticism would impact his patients access to care.
It s just done in what I consider to be the least efficient manner possible.

The Manitoba government is partnering with organizations representing Manitoba physicians and pharmacists and their members to prepare for the province’s vaccine rollout of new vaccines once they are approved for use in Canada.
“We are confident in the work of our supersites and focused immunization teams with the current approved vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. But we now anticipate that new vaccines that do not need to be frozen could become available in Manitoba in the days and weeks ahead, once they are approved by Health Canada and distribution begins,” said Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson. “To prepare, we are asking physicians and pharmacists who are interested in providing this kind of care for their patients to take part in the registration process so we can id ....
