DURSLEY traders are opening up the town for family food, music and shopping for three Friday nights during the summer. Dursley After Hours is an initiative of four local women who want to help the town’s recovery from the pandemic. “We came up with the idea as a free, fun and friendly way for people to start their weekend spending time in our town,” said Danae Savvidou, chairman of the Town Improvements Committee. “We’ve had a great response from cafe and shop owners who are going to open until 9pm.” Dursley After Hours is being organised by town councillors Doina Cornell, Wendy Thomas, Danae Savvidou and Anja Rowston. ....

The Fox will be a less high-end than The Wild Rabbit - The pub will seat up to 90 covers inside while a terrace will accommodate a further 40 people. The pub will also have eight bedrooms. Daylesford is a pioneer of organic farming with an upmarket restaurant and retail business that includes four Daylesford Farmshop & Café in central London and a further site in Gloucestershire. Daylesford Farm is set in over 2,500 acres of organic countryside and was recently awarded a Green Star by Michelin Guide. BEERS created by a new small batch brewery in Stroud are on tap in pubs around the Five Valleys. Ales from The Fresh Standard Brew Co which have proved popular in canned and bag-in-box form during lockdown are now available on handpump in selected pubs since the partial easing of lockdown. The brewery is based at the Artisan Ales site in Aston Down, just outside Minchinhampton. Pub-goers have been able to enjoy the company s beers at the Prince Albert in Rodborough, the Butchers Arms at Sheepscombe, the Old Fox at Coaley and the Old Spot in Dursley. And they will soon be available at the Vine Tree in Randwick too. ....

Jason Kalen, who runs The Marlborough in Wiltshire, claimed the structure was safe because it had a one-inch gap in the ceiling for ventilation. However, council officials pointed out that it broke established rules requiring at least 50% of the walls to be open to the outside. Therefore, he has been told he cannot use the chalet until punters are allowed to host people inside again on May 17, although he still has other space in his garden to accommodate drinkers from next week. ....
