We have looked at catching flounder in the shallow water of the Inland Bays, the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and the near-shore waters of the Delaware Bay. Now, we will try to give you some tips on catching flounder in deeper waters of the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
First, let’s look at the tackle you will need in these deep waters. While you can get by with one or two ounces of weight or no weight at all in shallow water, you will need at least three and often as much as eight ounces of lead to maintain contact with the bottom in deep water. This calls for a conventional reel mounted on a rod that can handle that much weight. In the past, you would have used a heavy rod and reel, but today you can find much lighter-weight tackle that will do the job. I use a Tsunami ....

Last week, we discussed the tides and currents that determine where and when fish are likely to feed in the Cape Region. Since almost all the water in the region is tidal, knowledge of tides and current is critical to successful fishing. Most tackle shops give away tide charts, and this newspaper prints the tides in every edition.
What they do not tell you about are the different changes in current direction at locations such as Indian River Inlet and the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. As the tide fills the Inland Bays, it takes time before all that water reaches the end of the bays at Millsboro and Love Creek. Before the bays fill up, the tidal wave has passed by Indian River Inlet and the water begins to drop. Now high tide has gone by, but the current is still runn ....

We have all heard of a message in a bottle, but three Lewes residents – Drew Johnson, his son Luke Johnson and their friend Dave Vitella – found a message in a satellite tag. They were walking their dogs along Lewes Beach when they found the MiniPSAT satellite tag that had been deployed during the Fourth of July weekend in a 46-inch striped bass named Independence by a team from The Fisherman Magazine, Gray FishTag Research and the Navionics Striped Bass Study. The fish was caught, tagged and released on a bucktail off Montauk, N.Y. ....
