Lack of teachers' accommodation affectingacademic performance at Ada SHS

The headmaster of Ada Senior High School, Kojo Ayibor, has observed that the absence of decent accommodation for teachers on campus is adversely affecting discipline and academic performance. Lately, a significant number of teachers have been posted to the school by government, but Mr Ayibor explained that the absence of a decent accommodation on the school’s premises for the tutors could be blamed for teacher absenteeism or lateness. He said most of the teachers stay far away from the school and have to board either a car or ride a pillion daily to and from school. “Lateness to school or absenteeism means loss of instructional hours and that, of course, will affect academic performance and discipline,” Mr Ayibor lamented at the launch of the school’s 60th Anniversary celebration.

After being thwarted in its attempts to alienate part of the land for Rachakonda Police Commissionerate some time ago, the government has allegedly come up with the fresh proposals, ostensibly to meet the food requirements of the children staying in the hostel. A meeting of the school’s executive committee chaired by the Minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eeshwar has reportedly taken a decision for leasing out the lands, extending over 45 acres, excluding the built up area.

Four generations of connections with Feilding High School

Hayley is an English teacher and has worked at the school for five years. “I wanted to come back. I did a placement here [as a student-teacher]. It s a pretty cool place to be. The kids are great.” Her attitude differs from great-grandfather Raymond, who died aged 97. He had only two years at school. “He couldn’t get out of here quick enough,” Peter said. School was different in Peter’s day in the 1950s than it is now. He was once asked by a teacher to clear birds nests from the ceiling of a classroom, and he fell through the roof. He remembered stuffing a book down the back of his trousers to soften the blow of being caned.
