Demolition sought for historic 2nd Avenue buildings in downtown

The owner of four historic downtown buildings torn apart in the Christmas Day bombing is seeking immediate demolition.
Much of the 2nd Avenue block between Church Street and Broadway s honky-tonk row will be taken down if the request is approved.
The buildings were built more than a century ago as part of Nashville s first downtown business district. They most recently held luxury lofts, a tattoo parlor, chain restaurants and bars including Hooters and The Old Spaghetti Factory.
H.I. Development Corp. President Andre Callen, representing the owner of 170-176 2nd Avenue North, formally requested demolition permits on Thursday.
We have come to the heartbreaking conclusion that complete removal of the structures is required. The site is simply unsafe, states a letter to Metro officials from Callen. ....

By Sarah Tate
Feb 19, 2021
Nearly two months after a bomb exploded in downtown Nashville early Christmas Day morning, and businesses affected by the explosion continue to recover and rebuild. However, it seems that not every business will return. The Old Spaghetti Factory on Second Avenue will not return after its landlord terminated a lease agreement between the restaurant s owners.
The iconic Nashville restaurant has been operating at its Second Avenue North location for 40 years, according to
FOX 17. When a bomb went off on Christmas Day, the Old Spaghetti Factory was hit hard. The owners claimed they offered to invest more than $1 million to rebuild and bring the restaurant back to its original condition to help restore this institution to downtown Nashville. Instead, the landlords, LOFTS 160 Nashville LLC, have decided to terminate the lease agreement despite it having 14 years left. ....
