We often hear people telling us that the Leaving Cert was much harder in the past, but what were the exams actually like? Over the last few years we have collected Leaving Cert and Junior/Inter Cert exams, so people can find out. We were sparked into action by a Twitter-based claim by a friend who claimed to have had studied differentiation and complex numbers for Inter Cert mathematics in the 1980s (spoiler: they hadn t). We have collected many of the STEM exam papers from 1925 to present day. Why 1925? Well, that s the first year the Leaving Cert and Inter Cert were examined by the newly-minted Department of Education. ....
Shirley Anne Nelson, 88, of Truro, Nova Scotia, passed Jan. 11, 2021, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. She was born in Linden, Nova Scotia, and grew up in Truro. She was the daughter of the late Burley and Annie (McFadden) Works, and a sister to Hazel Murray (Vernon) and Frank Works (Marion). She loved to talk about her childhood and especially her times in Linden and Pointe de Chene, New Brunswick. She loved her visits with all her family living in those areas. She graduated from The Business College in Truro, went on to marry her first love, Gerald (Gerry) Nelson, and later had two beautiful children, Debbie and Stanley. She stayed home to raise her children and went back to work when they were almost teenagers. She spent many years as the insurance adjuster at The Wally Keddy Real Estate Company. ....
