Schools in Ontario will not reopen to in-class learning until the fall.
That from Premier Doug Ford today, who said returning kids and teachers back to school before they are fully vaccinated will result in new cases.
“So today, I have to announce that schools will not be returning for in-class learning until the fall,” he said. “I know this is very difficult news – it was a hard choice to make.”
The decision comes after consultation with public health and education officials in the province.
Ford says he won’t take unnecessary risks with children right now while we are fighting the third wave with so many variants. ....

Local school boards will receive up to $9.5 million for expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic for the next school year.
In order to support a safe return to classroom learning in September, the Ontario government is investing $1.6 billion for enhanced cleaning protocols, personal protective equipment, temporary staffing and other supplies and equipment.

Four local school boards will receive a combined total of more than $300 million for the upcoming school year, the province has announced.
A statement from Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli’s constituency office Thursday says the funding is being provided through the Grants for Student Needs program and represents an increase of $7,080,000 over last year.

The school boards also will receive a combined $15 million in COVID-19 support funding.
“Today’s announcement is terrific news for students and hard-working Nipissing families,” Fedeli said. “Our government is committed to advancing student success, and we are delivering significant resources here in our area and across the province to help young people reach their full potential.” ....
