Murray school community will have the opportunity to choose whether they prefer to keep the existing name of their school or select a new name. A community advisory committee, appointed this past November, has been conducting a school naming review these past few months. The review follows enactment of a School Board policy that requires all schools in the division named for an individual to conduct a review of their school name. The purpose is to ensure that school names are consistent with the school division’s values of excellence, young people, community, and respect. ....
Feedback is wanted for a name for the new high school being built in Amherstburg. The new high school will bring together the General Amherst High School and the Western Secondary School communities at a single site in Amherstburg. In compliance with the board’s School Naming Policy, a committee will be formed to consider possible names for this new school. Photo: WINA Feb 3, 2021 News Release (ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Virginia) – More than 92 percent of local school community residents responding to an online survey said this week that the current name of V. L. Murray Elementary School should remain the same. The survey was conducted by the school’s Community Advisory Committee as part of their review of the school’s name. Next Wednesday, February 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m., the committee will host a public meeting to hear from community residents about the online survey, which drew 458 responses. While the large majority of survey participants supported retaining the school’s current name, the most popular suggestion for a new name was Ivy Elementary School, a reference to the school’s location in the western part of Albemarle County. ....
