Massachusetts to offer summer academies for K-12 students to support academic as well as social and emotion learning

After more than a year of schooling disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday announced that millions in funding is being provided for summer learning programs to support further academic as well as social and emotional learning opportunities.
The Baker administration on Friday morning announced more than $70 million in funding for school districts and community organizations to provide summer learning and recreational programs to students who were impacted by more than a year of remote and hybrid learning. The governor’s office said the programs will help children grow both academically and socially and are part of a multi-year effort. ....

Mass. maps $70 million summer education program to make up for COVID-19 losses


After more than a year of non-traditional schooling that many teachers, parents and experts fear has set students back academically and socially, students across Massachusetts will have an opportunity this summer to take part in enhanced and expanded summer school and recreational programs that Gov. Charlie Baker said will aim to bring kids back up to speed.
With more than $70 million in funding, including at least $25 million of federal money, the Baker administration plans a full menu of academic and recreational programs that school districts could offer this summer in schools, through local community organizations, at community colleges and at recreation sites. ....

Loyalsock school district may see tax increase | News, Sports, Jobs

Residents of the Loyalsock Township School District could face just under a half mill increase in real estate taxes next year if the tentative budget introduced this week is approved as the final budget by June 30.
Stressing that it was a tentative budget, a starting point, Dan Egly, district business manager, introduced the 2021-22 budget reflecting a .43 mill increase in real estate taxes for residents of the district. The district has not raised taxes for the past two years and has only raised taxes seven times in the last 16 years.
If the millage increase is approved in the final budget, township residents would pay an extra $43 per $100,000 of the assessed value their property. ....

In an effort to ramp up support to those who have had difficulty during this year of COVID, for about five weeks this summer, students in the Loyalsock Township School District will be able to attend summer school and remediation programs offered by the district.
The school board gave their okay to the program which will be offered to students in first grade through fifth and incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders and also eighth graders going into ninth in the fall.
According to Gerald McLaughlin, superintendent, principals in the district have been working to identify students who would benefit from the programs, based on assessments and grades. The programs will be funded by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Response (ESSER) II funds. ....
