Results from a report by the Texas Department of Health indicate there will be an estimated shortage of 15,600 dentists nationwide in 2025, with an estimated shortage of 490 dentists in Texas.
The shortage will be felt mostly in underserved areas like El Paso, but a solution is in place.
The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center Dental School opened in July with a first class of 40 DMD candidates. One of those candidates is Daniella Acosta from Marfa.
Acosta grew up as the oldest of five siblings to a single mom in Marfa, Texas.
