A Gold Coast company has opened up offices in Ballina to extend its operations into New South Wales.
Alder Constructions has cemented its position south of the state border with a satellite office in Ballina now fully operational.
The firm has also completed a $1.2M construction project at Cabarita Beach.
The company completed construction of Freedom Caba, a 21-lot subdivision at the sold-out project, by Gold Coast developer Sherpa Property Group last week.
Alder Constructions New South Wales regional manager Marty Brennan said opening the Ballina office and securing Freedom Caba marked the beginning of Alder Construction s success in the area. ....

More than 250kg of rubbish were removed from North Creek in Ballina by volunteers in one day.
Items removed from the area included beer bottles and cans, plastics and plastic bait bags, pieces of foam, shoes, containers, clothes and other household rubbish dumped in the area.
All these items seriously affect wildlife, marine life, plants and the ecosystem.
OzFish volunteers removed the rubbish during Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday.
Members of the public helped clear debris from sensitive saltmarsh areas in North Creek. Approximately 250kg of debris was removed from the area, which is recognised as an important section of fish and crustacean habitat. ....

Council rejects motion to divest from fossil fuel industry

Ballina Shire Council has rejected a motion to push for it to walk away from fossil fuel-aligned investments.
Councillor Jeff Johnson moved the motion, which aimed for council to stop investing in financial institutions that support the fossil fuel industry.
Cr Keith Williams said this was an issue he would normally support, but voted against the motion.
“I’m totally unconvinced by the processes suggested in this motion,” he said.
Cr Ben Smith offered a personal dig at Cr Johnson by pointing at one of his main projects – an ocean pool for Ballina.
“I’ve been doing some research about sources of CO2 in the atmosphere, and concrete production is eight per cent of global CO2,” he said. ....
