De Lima commends Palaweños for exercising their rights and for their extraordinary manifestation of democracy
Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima lauded the residents of Palawan for the result of the recently concluded plebiscite on the ratification of Republic Act (RA) No. 11259, intending to divide the province of Palawan into three separate provinces.
De Lima, a staunch social justice and human rights champion, said the praiseworthy move of Palaweños is a beacon of democracy in the country and a strong reminder of the importance of valuing and participating in the democratic process. The people of Palawan have spoken. I laud and congratulate Palaweños for this historic victory and embodiment of democracy, she said.

“After canvassing the results from Linapacan, Coron, Culion, and Busuanga, the PBOC for the #PalawanPleb suspended session and will reconvene at 2 p.m. today, 16 March 2021,” Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said in a Viber message.

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said Palawan residents had rejected a proposal to divide the province into three separate areas.
In a message to reporters on Tuesday, Comelec spokesman James B. Jimenez said the Palawan Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed the rejection after a plebiscite was held on Saturday.
He said 172,304 residents voted against the division of the province into Palawan del Norte, Palawan Oriental and Palawan del Sur, while 122,223 people supported it.
Comelec said 23 municipalities took part in the plebiscite, with a voter turnout of 60.
