Controversial oil rig in Grand Harbour tugged to Croatia

Earlier today the jackup oil rig that was berthed for the past four years could be scene being tugged on its way to Croatia. The rig was undergoing maintenance works at the Palumbo Malta Shipyard.
“Today’s departure was successfully and professionally executed following excellent coordination between Palumbo Shipyard, Transport Malta, the pilots, tugs and the rig’s owners. We will continue to assist the owners in all their needs for any future works at the Croatian shipyard,” a spokesperson for the shipyard said.

FINALLY! Grand Harbour Oil Rigs to Be Removed by End April
 
The Oil Rigs towering over the Grand Harbour which have been there for years will finally be removed by the end of April, following an agreement established between Transport Malta and Palumbo Shipyard, as Transport Minister Ian Borg announced today.
 
 
Alongside the oilrigs, Borg also announced that the half-sunk vessels which have littered Marsa Creek for a long while and taken up plenty of space will also be removed.
 
 
In a press conference, Borg also shared that the port authorities will be imposing a time limit on vessels undergoing repairs in the Grand Harbour and will clamp down on ship owners who unreasonably let their vessels reside unused in the harbour. ....

Oil rigs towering over Grand harbour to be removed by end of April


Oil rigs which have marred the Grand Harbour skyline for years will be removed by the end of April following an agreement between Transport Malta and Palumbo Shipyard, Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg said on Wednesday.
He also announced that the authorities will remove half-sunk vessels which have littered Marsa Creek for years, taking up valuable space. 
The agreement comes weeks after environment ombudsman Alan Saliba intervened in the issue, following complaints by residents and activists.  
Speaking at a press conference, Borg said the port authorities will be imposing a time limit on vessels undergoing repairs in Grand Harbour and they will clamp down on ship owners who unnecessarily allow their vessels to idle in the harbour.  ....
