May 18, 2021 - 02:41 PM The AHA joins the field in mourning the passing of Donald (Don) A. Wilson, longtime president and CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association. He was 81. Wilson served in the KHA’s top leadership role from 1982 to 2004, a tenure that resulted in a number of innovative initiatives that continue at hospitals and health systems across Kansas. Prior to his time in Kansas, Wilson helped lead the Iowa Hospital Association.
In 2003, the AHA presented its Board of Trustees Award to Wilson. The Board of Trustees Award recognizes individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of AHA. Among his colleagues at the AHA, Wilson was known as a skilled political advocate in both state and national affairs. ....
Trustees end calendar year by taking several actions In its final board meeting of the calendar year, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees authorized the university to proceed with the next phase of the T.B. Simon Power Plant Modernization Project. During this phase, the university will improve the plant’s natural gas infrastructure to complement the reciprocating internal combustion engines currently under construction. Installing separate electric- and steam-production equipment will result in higher overall plant efficiencies, reducing fuel expenses and carbon dioxide emissions. The project cost is $17.7 million. Trustees and President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., also recognized 29 students with the Board of Trustees Award for achieving a 4.0 grade point average at the close of their last semester. ....
Olympic Athlete Turned Linguistics Major to Graduate with 4.0 GPA Alexander Gamelin began his time at MSU after competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics. In the same impressive fashion, he now finishes his undergraduate career with a 4.0 GPA. A Linguistics major, Gamelin started ice skating with his twin sister when they were 7 years old and has competed all over the world in countries like Austria, Belarus, Canada, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Taiwan, and Slovakia. Alexander Gamelin and ice dancing partner Yura Min competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. “I like the feeling of freedom skating brings,” said Gamelin, whose ice dancing career spans 20 years. “When you’re skating fast and there’s the wind in your face, you feel very free to express yourself through the music and through dance. Figure skating has taught me a lot about myself and about life.” ....
