Sharyland ISD voters once again voted no against a multi-million dollar bond proposal to renovate the school district.
The $35 million bond proposal was narrowly defeated by six votes.
Voters struck down a similar bill in the November 2020 election.
School board members said the proposal was desperately needed and it would’ve renovated three of the school campuses.
On the school board, incumbent Jose Pepe Garcia will keep his seat after he finished with 55% of the vote over his challenger, Charlotte Hocott.

Today is the day.
Months of campaigning, informational meetings and presentations will culminate as local voters get their final chance to head to the polls to decide a number of bond issues and elections across Erath County.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Erath County voters can vote at the following locations, regardless of where they live in the county: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin.
City of Stephenville voters will decide on five proposed bond issues as well as two school board positions.

(When reviewing vote totals, note that everyone in the city of Stephenville is also in the Stephenville ISD.)
On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Erath County, voters can vote at any of the following locations, regardless of where they reside in Erath County: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin.

While four positions are up for election on the Stephenville City Council, each place has had one candidate declare so an election will not be held. Those declaring for the positions include incumbents, Ricky Thurman in Place 5 and Gerald Cook in Place 7; and newcomers LeAnn Durfey in Place 1 and Daron Trussell in Place 3.

Election Day will be May 1, with voting being held at the Olney Community Library and Arts Center. Besides voting on City Council members, the election for members of the School Board will also take place. The school board is made up of elected officials that depend on your vote. Below is who is running for school board and what they have to say.
Dirk Barrington (Board of Trustees Place 1): “My wife and I both grew up in a small town and wanted to raise our children in a small town. One of the things we love about Olney is the sense of community. Families come out to support the kids at various school events and attend church on Sundays. [During COVID] Our teachers have had to be on the front lines to educate our children.
