GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi via video conferencing from New Delhi kicked off multiple road, water and digital connectivity projects worth Rs 9,500 crore in Assam, which includes foundation stone laying for a 19-km long bridge over Brahmaputra river, which will be India’s longest bridge, and bhoomi pujan for construction of a bridge connecting world’s largest inhabited river island Majuli with mainland Assam. Modi in his speech said, “This will open new doors for tourism in Assam. Assam can be big destination for cruise tourism in country. We have to work together to make Assam the center of ‘Atmanirbharbharat.” The four lane 19-km long bridge over the Brahmaputra between Dhubri (on North Bank) and Phulbari (in Meghalaya on South Bank) on NH-127B will be the eight bridge over the mighty river will be built with a total cost of Rs 4997 crore. ....
