Hundreds carry out candle-light march, demand action against murderers in Peren case Hundreds of protestors gathered at the Kohima Local Ground to observe a candlelight vigil and demand justice for the three people killed in Lamhainamdi in Peren on March 22.   |  4 April 2021 6:16 AM GMT KOHIMA: Hundreds of protestors gathered at the Kohima Local Ground to observe a candlelight vigil and demand justice for the three people killed in Lamhainamdi in Peren on March 22.The vigil, organised by the Zeliangrong Students Kohima, was attended by people from various tribes, despite the pouring rain on Wednesday night. In an introductory note, Zeme Council President, Dr Tumda Newme briefly narrated the barbaric act where three persons were killed and two vehicles burnt in Peren. He also mentioned that few handwritten notes were also left behind by the murderers warning that it is just the beginning , and also warnings that advised encroachers to leave peacefully .

JICA seeks status report on the progress of Guwahati South-Central water supply project

STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) has sought a detailed status report on the progress of execution of the Guwahati South-Central Water Supply Project. The project is being funded by the JICA. The development has come more than a month after the External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Japan Ambassador to India Satoshi Suzuki visited the Guwahati South-Central Water Supply Project site at Kharghuli. Both Dr Jaishankar and Suzuki had asked the implementing authorities of the Guwahati South-Central Water Supply Project to expedite execution and complete the scheme as early as possible. The JICA-funded project with a proposed capacity of 191 MLD ((millions of litres per day) was started in 2011. The deadline for commissioning the project was 2017.
