The SIU’s enabling legislation requires it be notified anytime a suspect is seriously injured during an arrest. It has the authority, with the Crown’s office, to lay criminal charges against police officers.
The teenager suffered a concussion, a fractured left femur and damage to the so-called IT band while being grounded by an OPP officer from the Rockland detachment.
