IGNACE Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer Jacob Lauer, assigned to the St. Ignace Post, received the department’s Bravery Award during an Employee Recognition ceremony in Lansing on Monday. “The Citation for Bravery is awarded when a member knowingly performs an act in the line of duty which endangers or exposes him or herself to serious injury and when, because of the nature of the action, a life may be saved, a serious crime prevented or a person arrested who has committed a serious crime,” said Lieutenant Chad Larsen with the Michigan State Police. ....

Motor Carrier Officer Jacob Lauer, of the MSP St. Ignace Post, received the award for his life-saving efforts that also put himself in danger while pulling an unconscious man from a burning semi-truck, mlive.com reported. Lauer was on vacation in March and traveling along the highway when he saw heavy, black smoke coming from a semi-truck that was in the ditch and on fire off US-23 in Monroe County. ....

9 & 10 News June 29, 2021 The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office says two people were rescued from Moran Bay on Monday. They say around 8:27 p.m., deputies, along with St. Ignace Police, MSP St. Ignace Post, the United States Coast Guard- St. Ignace, Straits EMS, Mackinac Rescue 955 and the St. Ignace Fire Department, responded to reports of two people struggling in the water about one-fourth of a mile off the St. Ignace shoreline in Moran Bay. Deputies say the individuals flipped their kayaks and were unable to get back into them. They say St. Ignace Police arrived at the scene and were able to observe the two people from the shore. From there, the St. Ignace Police Department directed water assets from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, United States Coast Guard and Mackinac Rescue 955 to the individuals. ....
