Nurses, public health director honored at luncheon


Local hospitals, nursing schools and businesses came together Wednesday to honor and celebrate nurses during the Tribune s third annual  Nurses: The Heart of Health Care luncheon at Bismarck State College s National Energy Center of Excellence.
The event, presented by CHI St. Alexius Health and Sanford Health, recognized 10 nurses who strive to deliver compassionate care. Nine of the honorees were selected by a local panel of judges. Tribune readers voted and selected Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health Nurse Manager Theresa Schmidt as readers choice.
Raumi Kudrna, vice president of patient care services for CHI St. Alexius Health, said despite a year full of challenges, nurses and health care teams were able to persevere and grow closer together.   ....

Officials work to get people vaccinated for COVID-19 as demand slows, but skepticism remains


Vaccine providers are trying to encourage more North Dakotans to get a COVID-19 shot as demand plateaus, but many people remain skeptical of the available vaccines.
Public health departments and local hospitals told the Tribune that they re trying to reach out to the community to get people who haven t been vaccinated in for a jab. The state Health Department is planning a mass media campaign to increase vaccination rates, as well.
Providers attribute the drop in demand to several factors, including a lack of convenience and concerns about vaccine safety. They ve also heard that others prefer to wait and see while the people they know get vaccinated. ....
