The United States Harness Writers Association Hall of Fame Screening Committee is proud to announce an outstanding slate of candidates for induction into the 2022 Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Trainers Ron Burke and George Teague, Jr., along with driver Yannick Gingras, have been placed on the Hall of Fame ballot for this summer’s election.
This trio was then given a unanimous thumbs-up by four Hall of Fame trustees, who are all members of the Hall of Fame, to finalize the process. As well, the committee elected Chris Boring to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame, through the Veterans designation process. ....

McClure Among Meadowlands Qualifiers | Standardbred Canada

A star-studded group of Standardbreds qualifying at The Meadowlands on Saturday (April 17) was joined by Canada s reigning driver of the year, Bob McClure.
McClure told Dan Ralph of the Canadian Press that he was asked to drive stateside by Team Determination and trainer Luc Blais, and he ll be vaccinated for COVID-19 within five hours of entering the U.S.
“It wasn’t an option to just shut down because they have grand circuit horses that are going to compete with the American-breds all summer.and you can’t just let the American horses get a month head start,” said McClure. “They have to be race-ready and that takes racing. ....

Burke Aims For Borgata Trio | Standardbred Canada

With two horses already guaranteed spots in the final of the MGM Borgata Series for older male pacers, trainer Ron Burke will look to add a third on Monday (April 12), when Yonkers Raceway hosts the last preliminary round of the six-week event.
Based on points accumulated in the series, the Burke Brigade’s Rockapelo and This Is The Plan are among five horses to have already secured places in the eight-horse final on April 19. The others are Western Joe, Hesa Kingslayer N and Leonidas A.
Burke’s Backstreet Shadow is in the best position to join that group, pending the outcomes in Monday’s last preliminary divisions of the series. Backstreet Shadow, sixth in points, is the 8-5 morning-line favourite in the first of the last three Borgata splits, starting from post one. ....
