More Legislation Needed to Fight Forced Organ Harvesting: Lord Hunt
After introducing a piece of legislation that regulates the use of imported human tissues in medicine, Lord Philip Hunt of Kings Heath said he would like to see more changes in UK laws to combat forced organ harvesting.
Hunt’s amendment, which became law with the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill on Feb. 11, means that “ministers have the chance now to stop organs or human tissues being brought in from other countries where proper consent has not been given,” he told The Epoch Times on Tuesday.
“In the case of China, it means that organs from prisoners of conscience, the Uyghurs, practitioners of Falun Gong, cannot be brought into our country without the proper consent having been given,” he said. ....

Covid: Equalities watchdog urged to investigate UK's pandemic response

Unions, women s groups and charities have asked the UK s equalities watchdog to investigate whether the government broke the law in its pandemic response.
The groups claim some of the decisions taken by government are deepening inequalities faced by women.
Their intervention comes a week after a committee of MPs said the government s response to Covid had repeatedly skewed towards men .
The government said it had offered unprecedented help in the pandemic.
A spokesman said measures included help for the sectors where women are more likely to be employed, protection for female led start-ups and new childcare support. ....

The UK government on Tuesday named the former head of the Charity Commission, William Shawcross, to lead its long delayed independent review of Prevent in a move that is likely to further enrage critics of the contentious counter-terrorism strategy.
Shawcross s appointment comes after the government was forced to drop its initial choice for the role, Lord Carlile, in December 2019 after his appointment was the subject of a court challenge over his past advocacy for Prevent. ....
