Securities regulator eyes digital

The Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia and Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) have vowed to use an online system to facilitate business transactions as well as to keep the market afloat amidst economic uncertainty brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sou Socheat, director-general of the regulator, which recently changed its name from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (SECC), told The Post on March 11 the regulator is optimistic about adopting a digital platform to facilitate internal and external workflows.
“We set up the online mechanism in April 2020 and are continuing to use it internally and with relevant stakeholders in order to manage a smooth” transition when the time comes to officially adopt it, he said. ....

Kingdom’s first real estate trust products roll out

Central Trust Co Ltd, a joint venture between Cambodian and Chinese investors with a trustee licence in hand, has launched the first real estate trust products in the Kingdom.
Speaking at the inauguration last week in Phnom Penh, CEO Ling Dong announced five series of products – Funan, Zhenla, Angkor, Khmer and Bayon – which he said represent “five different functions of the company”.
He said: “Investment in the real estate market in Cambodia with its persistent display of potential has compelled companies to pick up real estate as their core, fundamental assets.” ....

Now the time to buy stocks, says CSX’s Ha

Now is a great time for the general public to buy shares on the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) as the Kingdom show gradual signs of economic recovery from the impact of Covid-19, according to its vice-chairman Ha Jong-weon.
The World Bank in mid-December projected that Cambodia’s economy would rebound to four per cent growth this year following a 1.9 per cent contraction in 2020.
The CSX index ended 0.3 per cent higher on January 8, closing out the week at 640.17 points. That day, 216,446,470 riel ($53,000) worth of shares changed hands.
Shares of ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC) rose 60 riel to reach 16,860, Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PWSA) inched up 20 riel to close at 6,100, and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) gained 80 riel to finish the day at 11,780. ....

SECC gives approval in principle to two new fund management firms

The English language daily quotes Sou Socheat, director-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (SECC), as saying that Amara Capital Plc and HCFM Fund Management Plc, both based in Phnom Penh, have been given approval in principle for fund management licences.
In addition, Moongunghwa (Cambodia) Trust Plc has been approved in principle for a trustee licence, and VMoney Co Ltd as a derivatives broker.
According to Socheat, the move will help the Cambodian capital market grow “step-by-step from year-to-year”.
“Today, we have more interested players and this market is growing little bit, thus what we need to do next is to strengthen public trust to make the market work better,” he says in the January 11 report. ....
