The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet this evening (Wednesday) to fix the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.
The Islamic Foundation issued a press release in this regard saying the meeting will be held at the foundation s Baitul Mukarram office after Maghrib prayers for reviewing information on the sighting of Shawwal moon.
Mohammad Faridul Haque Khan, State Minister for Religious Affairs and also president of the committee, will preside over the meeting, it added.
People have been requested to inform the committee over following phone and fax numbers if they see the Shawwal moon anywhere in Bangladesh sky. ....

The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet on Wednesday evening to fix the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.

Dhaka, May 5 (IANS): Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan police, Mahbubur Rahman on Wednesday said that the Hefazat militants have confessed to creating a Taliban state in Bangladesh, as similar to Afghanistan.
Rahman told IANS:, The militants have said that several Jamaat-e-Islam and Hefazat leaders are linked to the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Besides, the police have also collected various evidences in connection with the matter. Mamunul Huq and Harun Izhar, the Islamist radicals led the massacre and anarchy to oust the government headed by Sheikh Hasina, mostly funded by the militant outfit of Pakistan. ....

A delegation of Hefajat-e Islam held a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his residence in the capital to negotiate the ongoing crackdown on its top leaders following the recent violent activities of the Qawmi-madrasa based organisation.
Led by Nurul Islam Jihadi, secretary general of the convening committee of Hefajat, the 10-member delegation of the organisation entered the Home Minister s residence around 9:30pm tonight. The meeting lasted for more than two hours and ended around 12:00am. ....
