SEVIERVILLE The Salvation Army is known for its social service outreach and the Sevierville Corps now has new leadership to build upon what it already has done. Lt. Melissa Melching is the newly appointed commanding officer as of June 14. âI just want to be able to give my best âyesâ and be intentional, showing up and creating a place that feels like home and people feel included, loved and safe,â Melching said. Sheâs anxious to build upon the services that the Sevierville Salvation Army already provides, which centers around rental assistance, utility assistance and food assistance. In addition, the Salvation Army, which locally also serves Cocke County, provides Christmas assistance in the form of the Angel Tree Program and the well known Kettle Campaign, which collects donations for the services the nonprofit provides. ....

Repeated lower back injuries forced me to abandon distance running, which I loved. Crossfit and boot camp type workouts? Forget it. That’s how I found myself walking into a local yoga studio a few years ago. I needed a form of exercise that would allow me to stretch and strengthen my body particularly my core without the risk of heavy or repetitive impact. What I discovered in the studio was an activity that did just that and more. Aside from the movement, there’s a lot of deep breathing, stillness, and focusing on one thing at a time involved in yoga practice things that are highly beneficial to our mental and physical health but I find difficult to do independently. My mind races from days spent in front of screens, jumping quickly from post to post, idea to idea, image to image. ....
