After 13 years, Google is coming back for patient health records. The tech giant has launched an early user feedback program aimed at exploring how patients might want to see, organize, and share their own medical record data.
The work could inform the creation of a consumer-facing medical records tool along the lines of Apple’s Health Records app. It also follows an early attempt by Google later panned by medical experts at creating a new version of the electronic medical record in 2008. This time around, timing may be on the company’s side: Its new effort, which is still in the early stages, came on the heels of the introduction of the federal information blocking rule, which lets patients access their medical records through health apps. ....

Highmark Health taps Verily, Onduo to support 'hundreds of thousands' of its chronic disease patients

In December, Highmark Health announced a six-year collaboration with Google Cloud that the companies said would lay down the infrastructure of the integrated delivery network s data-driven Living Health Dynamic Platform.
Today, the organizations unveiled plans to get Verily and its Onduo chronic care subsidiary in on the action as well. Through another six-year partnership, the partners will work together to develop and build clinical validation for digital health tools focused on patient engagement. Those that are up to snuff will be integrated by Alphabet companies into Highmark s Living Health model for broader deployment.
Built on the Google Cloud-powered platform, these new tools will incorporate real-time monitoring and predictive analytics informed by machine learning, the partners said. ....

Ascension expands pilot of Google EHR search tool

St. Louis-based hospital chain Ascension is expanding the pilot of a Google EHR tool allowing clinicians to search for data within patient records, the next step in its partnership with the technology giant.
The two linked in 2018 to work on leveraging Ascension s clinical data to create an integrated, longitudinal record of patient care and develop other health tools. The partnership was made public in late 2019 and immediately stirred controversy, though using medical data to develop new product lines without patient consent is legal under current law.
The pilot testing an early release of Google s search software started with a small group of doctors in Nashville, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, Florida, according to a Tuesday blog post from Eduardo Conrado, Ascension s EVP of strategy and innovations. The goal is to eventually make the clinical search tool available to all Ascension providers. ....
