Subscriber only The company behind the $1 billion Olive Downs coal mine project has revealed it will be seeking to employ locals from surrounding towns to fill the 1500 jobs up for grabs, ruling out any fly-in, fly-out rosters. A Pembroke spokesman said construction was still planned to go ahead later this year, despite disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID has impacted activities and the company is committed to respecting guidelines in place for safe operations during this challenging period, the spokesman said. Some matters are out of the company s control, and it will ensure it provides updates on any material change to its plans should COVID measures continue.
The team at Moranbah Airport is on a high after unveiling its new look and name.
The airport has been renamed the Moranbah âBunhdharaâ Airport in recognition of the Traditional Owners, the Barada Barna Peoples.
Bunhdhara means sky in Barada Barna language â making it the perfect fit.
The airport boasts a new diversity walkway and signage, along with a number of Indigenous heritage artefacts that have been gathered from BHP and BMA operations over the years.
New artwork has been installed at the airport and is titled
Heading Home.
It was created by Barada Barna artist Elaine Chambers to reflect what was on peopleâs minds when they head back to the Moranbah area for work, or simply to connect with the country again.
