Protests spread in Benin as president readies for re-election bid

COTONOU (Reuters) - Opponents of Benin’s President Patrice Talon protested in several cities and towns on Monday night and Tuesday morning, denouncing his decision to stand for re-election next week.

Talon, who came to power in 2016, is due to run against two challengers on Sunday, despite a promise he would serve only one term.
Hundreds of people marched, burned tires and set up road blocks in the commercial capital, Cotonou, a Reuters witness said. Posts on social media showed demonstrations also taking place in the central city of Parakou and three other towns. ....

Benin - FBF announces new date for women s league
The 2020-2021 season of Benin National D1 Women s Football League of Benin will officially kickoff on 25 April 2021, as announced by the general secretariat of the Benin Football Federation (FBF).
In its note, FBF unveiled the schedule for the new 2020-2021 season, opting to play the season in two-groups format.
Benin’s elite 18 women sides will be divided into two pools of nine  teams each. Group A includes Léopards d Abomey, AS Lionesses of Bantè, Phénix de Bohicon, Espoir de Cotonou, Vigueur de Lokossa, Wengro de Natitingou, AS Galaxie de Parakou, Elite Athletic Club de Parakou and Asso Nougnon de Toviklin. While Dynamique FC de Calavi, Gazelle de Hevié, African Leaders de Cotonou, Black Stones FC de Cotonou, Flèche Noire Sporting de Cotonou, Naja de Cotonou, Tigresses de Cotonou, Sam Nelly de Missérété and Aïnonvi de Porto-Novo will compete in pool B. ....
