Jeremy Knowlton of Heathsville, Va., found John W. Thomas Jr. s ring while metal detecting in the east branch of the Conococheague Creek, as his son, Shrade, splashed in the water nearby. Sept. 3 Thousands of drivers will have to wait an extra two days before resuming their travels on U.S. 11 south of Greencastle. The road, traveled by about 13,000 vehicles a day, was scheduled to reopen Wednesday, Sept. 9, after being closed since Aug. 19 for a bridge replacement project. On Saturday the NMCC Falcons esports team kicked off a 24-hour Gaming for a Cause challenge to raise funds for three local nonprofits selected by team members. Starting at noon, the athletes livestreamed their gameplay via the online platform Twitch, broadcasting from the NMCC gymnasium. The team aimed to stream through the following day at noon. The event raised $1,200 through online donations, which will be evenly distributed to the selected charities. “We were very excited to see the donations come in,” said NMCC Esports Coordinator and Coach Chris Perry. “A fully online fundraiser can be intimidating for people, and we’re very happy that the community saw our effort and showed support.” ....
