Updated: 12:40 PM EDT Apr 23, 2021 Farmers are doing their best to protect plants from the recent cold temperatures in western Pennsylvania.At Soergel Orchards in Franklin Park, the spring crops are well underway and some fruit trees are flowering.With the cold moving in Thursday night, they were crossing their fingers. This is like the most critical time for the trees, farm manager Adam Voll said. This is when they re the most sensitive, so when we re seeing these colder temperatures when you get into the high teens, it gets scary. We re looking at damage maybe to the flowers, which is the apple, so you re kind of risking your whole crop at the time. Soergel is also covering strawberry plants with straw to protect them from the cold. ....
