CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar – Army Field Support Battalion-Qatar has come a considerable way since first receiving orders to deactivate back in January 2020.
As one of five battalions in the 401st Army Field Support Brigade, AFSBn-Qatar had a critical mission during the years of relative instability in the Middle East. Even though the mission has changed, with complete deactivation of the organization scheduled for May, the stakes remain the same.
Preceding what is currently being referred to as “Middle East calibration,” AFSBn-Qatar was tasked with receiving, storing, accounting for and maintaining multitudes of combat-ready equipment, known as Army Prepositioned Stocks. At any given moment, the battalion would facilitate the transfer of much needed equipment to units participating in combat operations throughout the U.S. Central Command. ....

COVID-19 vaccine rollout ongoing in U.S. Army Central footprint

The COVID-19 vaccination program in the U.S. Army Central’s area of operations is underway.
“The COVID-19 vaccine has begun coming into theater,” said Army Brig. Gen. Justin Swanson, commanding general of the Army Reserve 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.
Swanson is also the deputy commanding general of 1st Theater Sustainment Command, which is based at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and also has a forward deployed headquarters established at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. The forward deployed headquarters, which operates as an operational command post, or 1st TSC-OCP, is staffed with rotations from subordinate echelons of mobilized active-duty and reserve component units, providing sustainment and logistics support to U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, as well as to units throughout the Middle East. ....

New Family Life Chaplains enter Army ranks

Seven chaplains graduated from the Family Life Chaplain Qualification Course during a ceremony held Friday at the Chaplain Family Life Training Center here.
These chaplains with highly specialized skills as therapists and trainers of faith-informed, evidence-based pastoral counseling completed an 18-month, 60 semester hour Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas A&M â Central Texas. All will head out to their next assignments for what is called their utilization tour.
Chap. (Maj. Gen.) Thomas Solhjem, the U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains and virtual guest speaker at the ceremony, said these newly minted Family Life Chaplains will bring their skills to a force that needs them now more than ever. ....
