According to some media reports, the number of glacial lakes in the country has increased from 30 to 150 in the last three years. These reports suggest that there are some 3,044 spots in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) where glacial lakes may emerge in the next few decades due to climate change and may cause a glacial lake outburst flood that may result in the release of millions of cubic metres of water and debris, leading to the loss of lives, property and livelihoods in remote and impoverished mountain communities. It is important to mention that the northern mountain ranges – the Hindu Kush, Karakorum and Himalayas – are melting fast due to rising temperatures, posing threats to 7.1 million people in the region. ....

The cladding of the studio is largely comprised of standard 10 gage 4’ X 12’ tall A606 weathering steel panels. Using the standard module for the steel panels allowed for minimal preparation and fabrication time. High thermal performing reflective insulated glazing is used at all glazing locations for the project. The insulated glazing is configured with the reflective surface on surface 1 which allows for maximum heat rejection while offering the most reflection. The combination of these two materials for the cladding is intended to complement, absorb and reflect the existing residence’s landscape. Tejorling Radiance Temple / Karan Darda Architects

Text description provided by the architects. The temple built in a farmland is dedicated to Mahadeva(Shiva), one of the major gods in Hinduism. Located in a Chickoo tree orchard. The temple is built for everyday worship by surrounding farmers. The building takes references from the region’s historical aspects and Hindu temple architecture, which is re-interpreted in a contemporary way. A simple brick wall marks the entry to the area.

The overall structure is built using reddish-orange coloured concrete which helps the temple to contrast and standout in the surrounding greens. The temple is carefully inserted in a small piece of land which looks hidden into the trees from most of the surrounding areas creating a kind of curiosity for visitors and passers-by and the dimensions are derived using golden ratio to achieve the desired human scale. ....

The lighting of the bridge does not only ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians, but also highlights the bridge’s presence during the night so that it becomes equally as eye catching as during the day. The light changes color with the seasons.
A sculptural vantage point at low and high tide
The project ‘River in the city’, that this design is part of, is about controlling water, and especially about experiencing water. An important element of this task concerned the design of the landing points which connect the pedestrian bridge to the terrain below. Thus, the landing situated next to the river bank is designed as a destination to enjoy views of the river. This spectacular sculptural design provides two vantage points. Consequently, it does not only provide a broad view over the river, but also an intimate view of the water when the tide is high.
