Ohio ice rescue: Girl, 16, dies after saving brother, 13, from frozen lake at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro

An officer who responded to the drowning incident also died, authorities said.
The 16-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy fell through the ice near boat docks at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro on Tuesday evening, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The 911 call came in around 6:30 p.m.
By the time the Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District arrived, the girl was under the ice, according to Lt. Branden Jackman. The water was 36 degrees, he said.
The boy was taken to the hospital and was stable, but his sister was recovered by divers unresponsive, authorities said. She has not been identified publicly by authorities. ....

Police issue warning after boys fall through frozen pond in Washington Township, New Jersey

WASHINGTON TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) Four boys are lucky to be alive after police say they fell through the ice on a neighborhood pond Sunday evening in South Jersey.
Lisa Tan saw a group of boys walking on the frozen pond behind her Washington Township, New Jersey home around 5:00 p.m. She says moments later, four of the boys fell through.
As soon as I saw that I put on my shoes and started running over there, said Tan. I got to one of the boys who was closer to where I was. I helped him out. There were two that were right in the middle of the water. I didn t think they were going to make it. ....

An 11-year-old boy was rescued from an icy Texas pond after a teenager spotted him while walking her dog. Caitlyn Thomas, a high school senior, said she spotted the boy Wednesday in Jefferson, a town about 170 miles east of Dallas. ....

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. â Firefighters with the Overland Park Fire Department spent the afternoon Friday at South Lake Park practicing ice water rescues.
It was the first time the department was able to conduct such training in three years, one of the few benefits of the Arctic blast that plunged temperatures across the Midwest well below freezing for the last few weeks.
âWe try and get out here anytime there is ice over the ponds,â Tyler Carey, who helped lead the training, said. ....
