Lewes Delaware 19958United States One of the largest residential-commercial developments in eastern Sussex County history is under state agency review through the Preliminary Land Use Service process. Carl M. Freeman Companies has plans to develop Cool Spring, a 539-acre parcel off Route 9 between Lewes and Harbeson, which also encompasses both sides of Log Cabin Hill Road and Cool Spring Road, and the east side of Hudson Road. Included in the plans are 2,000 residential units, 77,100 square feet of commercial and 86,000 square feet of mixed residential and commercial. A conceptual plan, filed with state planners, includes a 60,000-square-foot YMCA, 40,000-square-foot grocery store, 12,000-square-foot clubhouse, and 14,000-square-foot hotel with another 37,100 square feet of mixed residential and office space. Apartments, rentals, townhomes, single-family homes, duplexes and villas are planned. ....
March 5, 2021 Judicial emergency order extended An emergency order in place for Delaware courts was extended for another month in an update signed March 3. The order suspends requirements for sworn declarations, verifications, affidavits and other court business. It also tolls speedy trial guidelines. Sharrows recommended for Rehoboth streets Looking for easy ways to improve bicycle safety, the Rehoboth Beach Streets & Transportation Committee voted in favor of recommending that city commissioners authorize painting sharrows on Rehoboth, Henlopen and Bayard avenues and State Road. The 4-1 vote took place during a March 1 meeting. Sharrows are arrow-shaped markings used to designate street areas where vehicles and bikes share space. Committee member John Gauger voted against the measure. He said he didn’t think the city should be encouraging biking on Rehoboth Avenue. City Commissioner Pat Coluzzi, who chairs the committee, didn’t disagree with Gauger ....

Such is the case with the ongoing exterior renovation of Coolspring Presbyterian Church on Log Cabin Hill Road west of Lewes. The Greek Revival architecture-style church, built in 1854, is on the site of two previous churches dating back to 1726, making it one of the oldest houses of worship in the region. As the church nears its 300th anniversary, one of the projects that church members agreed on was a major paint job for the exterior. Unfortunately, the previous paint was latex and not oil-based, said Rick Bailey, owner of Coastal Colors, who has taken on the job as a mission. The choice of paint, unrelenting sun baking the outside and the age of the cypress shingles combined to form a perfect storm. ....
DelDOT plans projects this summer and fall on popular cycling and walking pathway A section of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail from Log Cabin Hill Road to Cool Spring Road was completed last May. Work will continue this fall with a crossing at Route 9 toward Fisher Road, and this summer with a section from Georgetown.
