FISHING REPORT: How cyclone Niran could change your plans

Nathan Sutton with a Barra he caught recently. News Shane Anderson Premium Content BUNDABERG INSHORE With the cyclone up north and the torrential rain it has produced, the coastal areas are not looking very good to get offshore from Bundaberg this weekend. It may be time to do a bit of maintenance on the trailer and a chance to re-wire the boat. Always check the weather forecast before heading out. BURNETT RIVER We have had good reports of decent sized bucks being caught. With the warmer weather still hanging around, barramundi and mangrove jacks are still very lively. Best baits to use are live poddy mullets or sprat for the jacks.

FISHING REPORT: Quality reef fish and barra aplenty

Corey Cronin with a Coral Trout he caught. Sport Dale Smith Premium Content BUNDABERG OFFSHORE How good was it to see so many big boats out and about last weekend around the Bundaberg region? Good news is that most boats managed to secure a quality mixed bag of reef fish including red emperor, coral trout, grass sweetlips, and parrot. On the other side, nearly every boat reported losing lots of trophy reef fish to sharks. Other than a couple of showers, this weekend s forecast is looking alright to get out and have another crack offshore. LOCAL BEACHES February is a fantastic time of the year to chase dart, whiting and flathead along many of our local beaches between Fraser Island and 1770.

News Nathan Sutton Premium Content Bundaberg inshore With the weather not playing the game around the Bundaberg area this weekend, it’s going to be hard to get out and chase a few reef fish. There was some nice mackerel caught over the Christmas break. Trolling lures and floating a dead bait back behind the boat has been doing the damage. We are finding they have been a bit shy when using wire traces. There has also been some nice grass sweetlip and grunter being caught on baits such as squid, mullet fillets, pilchards, yackers, and gar.
