Housing Michigan, a coalition of over 20 statewide organizations and dozens of other regional groups, including the Home Builders Association of Michigan, Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Municipal League, Housing Next and many others, unveiled its legislative agenda last week in Lansing.
The agenda is focused on addressing the state’s housing crisis through a series of bipartisan legislative initiatives.
“(It) was a good day for Michigan as we addressed in a bipartisan manner a very serious issue the state’s growing housing crisis,” said Dawn Crandall, incoming executive vice president for government relations for the Home Builders Association of Michigan. “We cannot stress enough the urgency with which we need to focus on the legislative initiatives introduced (last week). Dwight Govan spent 35 years in the elevator industry before he joined LARA in 2012 as a General Elevator Inspector in the Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC).
In 1975, he began his career as an apprentice and, seven years later, became a journeyman where he worked in construction, service and maintenance. Dwight spent the next nearly three decades working for several major companies in the industry including, Haughton, Schindler, Thyssen Krupp, and Westinghouse.
He retired in 2010 as an elevator maintenance mechanic but since he still had a desire to be a part of the industry, Dwight joined the State of Michigan as a general elevator inspector two years later. His current duties include inspecting the conditions and all parts of elevator equipment to ensure safe operations of public and private elevators and escalators. He also ensures elevator equipment meets the safety codes for the State of Michigan with certificates of compliance or non-compl ....

5, 2019 - LARA’s Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) issued a Cease & Desist order against Mount Mancelona located at 2497 Ski Run Rd., Mancelona, MI to cease and desist from operating a ski lift without a permit, in violation of the Ski Area Safety Act. An investigation prompted by a complaint, disclosed violations of the Ski Area Safety Act: 1) not possessing a permit to operate a ski lift; and 2) a LARA inspection found the ski lift to be hazardous or unsafe. ....
