'We will remember': Work begins on W&M's memorial to the enslaved

The University of Georgia celebrated a number of important accomplishments during the 2020-2021 academic year despite the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Fort Worth Mayoral Candidates Share Plans For The Police Department

Fort Worth has been grappling with issues in its police department for years. The city s new mayor either Mattie Parker or Deborah Peoples will inherit those struggles. They indicated how they would handle them at the latest mayoral forum.
Deborah Peoples, the outgoing chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party, and Mattie Parker, a nonprofit CEO and former chief of staff to Fort Worth’s mayor and City Council, are the final two candidates out of an initially crowded field.
They met for a forum on Tuesday night, hosted by the civic engagement nonprofit SteerFW, to discuss their thoughts about what s going on at the state legislature. ....

A $10 million fundraising campaign, led by the UGA Foundation and its emeriti trustees to strengthen the University of Georgia’s Honors Program, will culminate in the naming of the Jere W. Morehead Honors College. Morehead serves as president of the University of Georgia, and the naming was approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in a meeting on Tuesday, May 11.
“My fellow board members and I are delighted to play a role in this transformation at the University of Georgia,” said Sachin Shailendra, chair of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. “And my very good friend, Jere Morehead, has always remained dedicated to students and the state of Georgia. There is no one more deserving of this honor.” ....

UGA adopts new plan to enhance diversity, inclusion

The University of Georgia’s Planning Committee on Diversity and Inclusive Excellence has completed its work, establishing a five-year roadmap to advance diversity and inclusion at UGA.
The plan includes 11 university-level goals ranging from increasing the enrollment of underrepresented students to increasing the number of underrepresented faculty and staff, as well as increasing institutional visibility in the educational pipeline of underserved communities.
The planning process was led by Michelle Cook, vice provost for diversity and inclusion and strategic university initiatives, and Kyle Tschepikow, special assistant to the president and director for strategy and innovation, and included 21 faculty, staff, students, alumni and local community members. ....
