Nearly 40 MPs and peers have signed a joint statement calling for financial education for every primary school aged child.
This call comes as financial education charities expressed concern about rumoured spending cuts to financial education in the Money and Pensions Service’s (Maps) upcoming budget.
Parliamentarians hope money can be found from unclaimed assets set to be released from the financial services sector by the Dormant Assets Bill.
Where this is not possible, the money is put into important social and environmental initiatives across the UK. ....

An estimated 1.3m people experiencing high levels of mental distress receive or are applying for Universal Credit, according to the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute (Joe Giddens/PA)
An estimated 1.3 million people experiencing high levels of mental distress receive or are applying for Universal Credit, according to a charity.
The Money and Mental Health Policy Institute, which was founded by consumer champion Martin Lewis, released the figure as it called for urgent action to fix “design flaws” in the Universal Credit system.
It warned that hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people may struggle to get support to effectively manage their Universal Credit accounts. ....
